The objective of practicing yoga:
To achieve clarity, centering, calming the body and mind by using poses to open up the body and release all physical (muscles/ tension/ stiffness) and internal tension (internal organ/ blood circulation) and mastering your muscles. Preparing the practitioner for spiritual worship or just enjoying the calming of body and mind.

This student is comparing yoga to sex at the moment where time seems to stop. There is clarity, which is the objective of yoga. Stability and physical strength is the side effect and not the main objective. Flexibility will come from the strengthening of the muscles.
One of the misconceptions people have about yoga is that it is mere stretching. However there is no stretching or pulling on any muscles. Instead it involves using muscles to control body movement and hold poses in place, which strengthens the body.
Mastering your body involves control over every muscle and every movement, even in active relaxation. This is the art of yoga.
Yoga has many benefits both physical and emotional. It helps you find your inner peace and prepares you for spiritual work. Just like studying English or martial arts, the poses are your basic abc’s.
The interpretation and use of each yoga pose to balance your yin/yang, front/back and masculine/feminine are all based upon the teacher’s knowledge. Remember, we may all know English, but most of us can’t really teach it or are not able to explain how to read and write it to English students. Yoga is no different.
Clarity: like the first few moments when we wake up or just before we fall asleep, the world seems quiet and clear; your body and mind are totally relaxed. We see and listen to all that is around us without attachments or feeling the need to be part of it. We feel calm and at peace with ourselves and full of fresh renewing energy for mind and body.
Active relaxation: controlling and telling your muscles to relax on command
Passive relaxation: dropping your body on the couch or floor and letting everything go

Jnana yoga: using philosophical / intellectual technique (Viveka, Vairagya) to see through life illusion.
Bhakti yoga: practice through Chanting and prayer
Raja yoga: concentration and control of the mind. right conduct , a healthy body and stead posture, breath regulation, and withdrawal of the senses. Most of our yoga practice in the West are base on this practice with a focuses on hatha.
